Do you feel special?
I was recently invited to watch a Celtics game in Boston, and it was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. I won’t go through all the details here, but feel free to check my instagram @grgrgregory for photos/videos and details.
The part I wanted to talk about though, is a moment that really stuck out to me. Part way through the game, a woman came up to us and asked “which one of you is greg?”. I had no idea what this was about, but I knew that I was greg so I nervously said.. “me?”.
She thanked me for coming, and handed me a bag of Boston swag.
That’s it. That’s the incredible experience. I know it doesn’t sound like much. And it doesn’t much matter what was in the bag, but what mattered is that a week later, sitting my my office in Austin, it’s still on my mind. In a night of non-stop firsts for me, somehow this experience stood out.
But why? I think it’s because it made me feel special.
I was already sitting courtside at a freaking Celtics game (super special), but we were among many sitting courtside (it makes me wonder what kind of lives these ppl have haha). I’m the only one (that I noticed) that got the extra treat. It was a complete surprise, completely unnecessary to the experience, and completely memorable.
How often do we get to give a feeling like that to someone we care about, whether a friend, family, or client? I’m not someone known to be a strong gift-giver, but I’d like to be someone who’s good at making the people in my life feel special. Because the people in my life aren’t there by accident. They’re there bc I love them, and I want them to feel those feels too.
Have you ever had an experience like that? Are you good at giving that feeling? If either, can you reply and tell me about it?
PS. If you have any real estate needs in Austin or beyond, let me know! I know great people in every city and would be happy to introduce you.
